Château de Villiers
The Château de Villiers, at Cerny in the Essonne, belongs to the Selves family. It was built on the site of an old feudal castle that belonged to Olivier Le Daim, minister of King Louis XI, where the lords of Villiers lived. They tried several times to take the title of lord of Cerny, but this privilege was disputed. Displeased, throughout the 18th century they forced the inhabitants to grind their wheat at their mill, although this right belonged to the Count of La Ferté-Alais, who obtained a ruling against them in 1748.
During the Revolution the château was lived in by the Count de Selves d'Audeville, a benefactor loved throughout the area, who was protected by the peasants during the Terror.
