Château de Talcy

Loir-et-Cher, Centre-Val de Loire

The château de Talcy, in the Loir-et-Cher, stands about ten kilometres north of Mer and about twenty kilometres from Blois, on the borders of the Beauce and the Loire Valley. The place was in the thirteenth century a lordship and a rich farming estate. The present château was built from 1520 by Bernard Salviati, Francis I's Florentine banker.

The château is linked to literary history: it is there that Ronsard met Cassandre Salviati, who inspired his verses, and Agrippa d'Aubigné took refuge there and loved Diane Salviati, Cassandre's niece. The building houses furnished interiors of different periods.

The garden, classified a remarkable garden, includes an old vegetable garden and an orchard. The château offers guided tours on the wars of religion and activities, such as family workshops in the garden. It is managed by the Centre des monuments nationaux.
