Château de Sauvan
A historic monument since 1957 and a haven of greenery and tranquillity, the Château de Sauvan, at Mane in the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence, sometimes called the 'Petit Trianon of Provence', is a remarkable site.
Its construction, begun in 1719, is due to Joseph Palamède de Forbin-Janson, and its plans to Jean-Baptiste Franque, a famous Avignon architect. It is in pure classical style, which may be surprising in Provence, and its majestic dressed-stone façades, golden in the sun, look towards Mane and, further off, Forcalquier.
