Château d'Allemagne-en-Provence
The Château d'Allemagne-en-Provence has a unique history and architecture. Originally built by the Castellane family (1218-1718), it was the home of the Varages family (1718-1839), then of the Ripert-Montclar family (1839-1936). It is still lived in today.
This imposing château, half feudal (with a 12th-century keep) and half Renaissance, is listed as a historic monument. It features crenellations, defensive works, mullioned windows, a spiral staircase, a gypsum fireplace typical of the Aix area and a listed park. It stands in the village of the same name, on the Valensole plateau, near the Verdon gorges.
