Château de Salignac

Dordogne, Nouvelle-Aquitaine

The Château de Salignac is the former fortress of the Salignac family, of the 11th and 15th centuries, in the commune of Salignac-Eyvigues, in the Dordogne. It should not be confused with the Château de Fénelon, at Sainte-Mondane on the left bank of the Dordogne, which also belonged to the Salignac family.

Behind its ramparts rise the round and square towers of this building constructed between the 12th and 17th centuries. The main building has remarkable mullioned windows. The ramparts no longer defend the village clinging to its rocky spur, but the proud castle still dominates its roofs, in a picturesque corner of the Périgord Noir.
