Château de Quérigut
On a rocky peak in the centre of the village of Quérigut, in the Ariège, all that remains of the castle is a massive ruined tower, the former keep. The castle is mentioned in a text of 1208.
From the 15th to the end of the 17th century it was besieged several times by the Spanish. An attempt to take it failed in 1495, but in 1589 the besiegers managed to burn it. In 1607 Louis XIII placed a garrison there, removed by a Council of State decree of 25 April 1638. The castle was burned again in 1676, and in 1709 Louis XIV ordered it repaired and garrisoned once more.
