Château de Pirou
Pirou castle is a former fortress, founded in the second part of the twelfth century and deeply remodelled in the seventeenth, whose remains stand at Pirou, in the Cotentin, in Normandy. Built on an artificial islet surrounded by three moats and five fortified gates, with high ramparts, it is presented as the oldest of the Norman castles.
It has been restored since 1968, under the direction of Abbé Marcel Lelégard, until 1994. It is partly listed as a historic monument. You discover the bakery, the press, the chapel and the guardroom. The visit lets you understand life in a fortress, a few kilometres from the sea.
