Château d'Omonville

Manche, Normandie

The château d'Omonville is at Denneville, a delegated commune of Port-Bail-sur-Mer, on the west coast of the Cotentin, in the Manche. It rises in the former territory of Omonville-la-Folliot, attached to Denneville in 1812.

The residence, whose oldest parts go back to the sixteenth century, is built in the centre of a court of honour surrounded by water-filled moats. At the back, a French-style garden extends the whole. In the nineteenth century, the outbuildings were rebuilt in an arc, on a platform slightly overlooking the courtyard.

The château was restored after 1944. It is one of the commune's remarkable buildings, with the church of Saint-Rémy and the château de Denneville, also called château du Breuil.

Visit conditions are not reliably established: it is better to check with the tourist office before travelling.
