Batterie d'Azeville
The Azeville battery is a German coastal battery of the Atlantic Wall, at Azeville, about 8 km from Sainte-Mère-Église and 5 km from the Landing beaches. Managed by the Manche département, it includes four casemates housing 105 mm Schneider guns, an underground complex of about 850 m and several annex buildings.
This work was among the Allies' priority objectives on 6 June 1944. The position fell on 9 June 1944 after violent fighting. It has been listed as a historic monument since 2025.
Several visit formulas are offered: a free visit with audioguide, available in adult and child (7–12) versions and in several languages, a guided visit in French or English of about 1h15 on garrison life, the battery's construction and camouflage, or a visit centred on the collections of objects. A film is shown on site and a hike links the battery to the village.
The site is open all year by booking, outside the winter closure period, and suits families as well as history enthusiasts.
