Château de Neuville

Yvelines, Île-de-France

A first château at Neuville, at Gambais in the Yvelines, built in the 14th century, burned during the Wars of Religion, and Joachim de Bellengreville decided to rebuild it. In 1750 Agnès de Révol undertook major works, notably a gallery where she held her parties.

Ruined, she sold the château to Monsieur de Laverdy, Controller General of Finances under Louis XV. In 1793 Neuville was sold as national property after Laverdy was guillotined; his son-in-law, the Marquis de la Briffe, bought it back in 1795. Neuville was occupied during the Second World War, and since 1966 the château and the farm have been extensively restored.
