Château de La Boissière

Yvelines, Île-de-France

The La Boissière estate, in the Yvelines, remained in the same family from the Middle Ages to the 19th century. In 1847 it was divided between two brothers: the elder, Baron Gustave Legras de La Boissière, inherited the château and the larger part of the estate, while the younger, Achille, received the Tremblay farm, which he sold in 1854 to the financier Charles Blanchard.

From 1853 to 1857 Baron Legras had the château rebuilt to the original plans, hiding the remains of the old building; the Chapel of Sainte-Catherine was demolished in 1855 and the park was turned into an English garden. He sold the property in 1869 to Blanchard, who sold it in 1879 to Commandant Olympe Hériot, who enlarged the château around 1890.
