Château de Groussay

Yvelines, Île-de-France

The park of the Château de Groussay, in the Yvelines, is inspired by 18th-century parks, Anglo-Chinese gardens and Swedish châteaux. It surrounds the château built in 1825 for the Duchess of Charost, daughter of Madame de Tourzel, governess to the children of Louis XVI and Marie-Antoinette.

Bought in 1938 by Charles de Beistegui, a highly original figure, Groussay was enlarged in 1952 with two wings, one leading to the theatre, and with 'follies' designed with the artists Emilio Terry and Alexandre Serebriakoff and the architects Desbrosses and Costi.
