Château de Beynes
The Château de Beynes, in the Yvelines, stands within the village, on the borders of the former royal domain of Île-de-France. First a defensive stronghold, it became a seigneurial and then a royal residence, and was remodelled many times up to the 16th century, showing great architectural ingenuity.
Now largely in ruins, it still has remarkable features. From the moats, the 15th-century walls can be seen; inside, casemates run along the 13th-century walls, enclosed within later buildings. On the first floor, the cross street and the foundations of the living quarters recall the history of the place.
The association 'Beynes, Histoire et patrimoine' runs guided tours of about an hour in small groups.
