Château de Montpoupon
The Château de Montpoupon is in the Indre-et-Loire, east of Tours, 10 km south of Montrichard and a few kilometres from the Château de Chenonceau, on the road to Loches. It stands in a valley in the heart of a forest, in the commune of Céré-la-Ronde, and has been listed as a historic monument since 1966.
In Carolingian times the Poppo, a Germanic clan, settled on the rocky peak of 'Mons Poppo', which became Montpoupon. In the Middle Ages it was a stronghold. The château later became a country residence with furnished interiors. It also houses a museum of hunting with hounds, in a forest setting.
