Château de Malherbes

Gironde, Nouvelle-Aquitaine

The Château de Malherbes is a stately home and wine estate at Latresne, in the Gironde, on the Entre-deux-Mers slopes above the Garonne, opposite Bordeaux. According to tradition, it was founded at the end of the 14th century by Guilhem de Malherbes, a knight back from the Crusades.

The main house was rebuilt in the 19th century in a 16th-century-inspired style. Some farm buildings date from the 17th century, but most are 18th-century. The estate covers about twenty-five hectares, twelve of them vines on clay-limestone soil, planted with Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc for the reds and Sémillon and Sauvignon for the whites. Bought in 2014, it has expanded its vineyard and installed a gravity-fed winery in 2021. Its wines are Cadillac-Côtes-de-Bordeaux and Bordeaux. The château has offered wine tourism since 2023, with plans for a hotel and restaurant.
