Château de la Roche Aigueperse
The Château de la Roche, at Aigueperse in the Puy-de-Dôme, was built in the 12th and 13th centuries by the Dukes of Montpensier. Made a castellany by the Constable of Bourbon for Chancellor Michel de L'Hospital, who transformed it in the 16th century, it combines a 12th-century keep enclosed by a 13th-century fortress and a seigneurial residence that is still lived in.
The residence contains tapestries, weapons and period furniture. Aigueperse, in the north of the Limagne, was the capital of the principality of Montpensier during the Renaissance, before being joined to the Bourbonnais. The visit sheds light on this episode of local history, in the Auvergne countryside.
