Château de la Bastie d'Urfé

Loire, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes

La Bastie d'Urfé (or Bâtie d'Urfé) is a château in the Forez, at Saint-Étienne-le-Molard in the Loire, open to visitors. It hosts summer shows during the Nuits de la Bâtie d'Urfé and the national Museum Night. It was once the home of Honoré d'Urfé, author of L'Astrée.

Unique in France, the château is full of unusual 16th-century-style creations: white walls, an open gallery, gardens for strolling with geometric parterres of box and yew, a fountain and a river along the walk.
