Château de Dissay

Vienne, Nouvelle-Aquitaine

On the right bank of the Clain, in the Vienne, stands the imposing and elegant Château de Dissay. Built in the 15th century by Pierre d'Amboise, Bishop of Poitiers, it was enlarged in the 18th century. Flanked by tall white towers, its silhouette is gracefully reflected in the moats around it.

The visit takes in the inner courtyard and the polygonal corner turret, which houses a staircase ending in a magnificent palm-tree vault. The chapel is not to be missed, with a fine example of 16th-century frescoes on the theme of the Fountain of Mercy and beautiful 16th-century stained glass. A walk in the park designed by Le Nôtre follows in the footsteps of Francis I and Louis XIV, who were received on the estate.
