Château des Robinières

Vienne, Nouvelle-Aquitaine

The Château des Robinières is at Haut-Clairvaux, in the commune of Scorbé-Clairvaux, in the Vienne. Building began in 1524 for Hugues Lucas, on a fief dependent on the barony of Clairvaux, and continued into the 17th century.

In the early 17th century François Lucas fortified his house, which led to a dispute with the owner of the neighbouring Château de Clairvaux. In 1626 César d'Aumont allowed him to finish the work on condition that he built no fortress troubling Clairvaux.

It is a rectangular two-storey house surrounded by dry moats, with a wine press, a bakehouse and a dovecote with more than a thousand nesting holes. The façades, roofs, moats, bridges, gateway and dovecote have been registered as historic monuments since 1984. A private property, it features in local walking circuits of Scorbé-Clairvaux alongside the Château de Clairvaux and Haut-Clairvaux.
