Château-Couvert

Vienne, Nouvelle-Aquitaine

Fully restored, Château-Couvert, in the Vienne, can be visited in its entirety. A listed 16th-century historic monument, it was built by François Fumé, mayor of Poitiers, in 1520, in the early Renaissance style. It features sculpted bays, vaulted rooms and fragments of paintings.

The name Château Couvert first appears in 1520. Protected by ditches, it stood alone in a large enclosure containing outbuildings, a dovecote, French formal parterres, an orchard and woods. The Revolution was a dangerous time for the monument's survival.

Now restored, it hires out rooms all year round for seminars, weddings and receptions.
