Château de Cordès
A listed historic monument perched at 900 metres' altitude, this impressive fifteenth-century château has a chapel whose altar and altarpiece in Carrara marble date from the sixteenth century. The recumbent effigy of Yves II, Lord of Allègre and companion of Bayard, owes its survival to its unusual use as an altar step. Superb formal parterres were laid out by Le Nôtre. It is here that the novelist Paul Bourget set the plot of "Le Démon de midi".
