Château de Bourron

Seine-et-Marne, Île-de-France

The Château de Bourron, at Bourron-Marlotte in the Seine-et-Marne, stands between the village and the forest of Fontainebleau, on the site of a medieval fortress. Sources date it to the 16th or early 17th century. Its brick and stone style and its two horseshoe staircases on the north and south façades recall the Château de Fontainebleau, earning it the nickname 'little Fontainebleau'. In 1725 the exiled King of Poland, Stanisław Leszczyński, stayed here.

The estate was bought in 1878 by the Montesquiou-Fezensac family, whose descendants still own it. The interior has been listed as a historic monument since 1926, and the façades, roofs, courtyard, moats and part of the park since 1971.

The park of about forty hectares borders the forest of Fontainebleau; it includes the Saint-Sévère spring, the moats and the 'Maison d'Artagnan'. The château also houses a hotel and a restaurant.
