Château de Baville
On the site of the old manor house of Baville, in the Essonne, Chrétien de Lamoignon had Louis XIII's master mason build a large slate-roofed château: a two-storey main building topped by a pediment and flanked by two lower side wings, each ending in a projecting pavilion that closes the main courtyard.
Two return wings, probably planned from the outset, were built for François-Chrétien de Lamoignon in 1677, in keeping with the original style. The left wing was demolished in the early 19th century, and its materials were used to build an orangery.
