Château d'Ivry la Bataille
The castle of Ivry-la-Bataille is a former fortress of the late 10th century, now in ruins, in the commune of Ivry-la-Bataille, in the south-east of the Eure, in Normandy. It was completely destroyed in 1424, and its ruins are listed as a historic monument.
Its great tower is one of the oldest surviving buttressed keeps, with a complex arrangement of hall, chambers and chapel, and a projecting apse. It is attributed to Lanfroy, the architect of Pithiviers. In the second half of the 11th century the whole was enhanced with new towers. The site remains an important milestone in the history of medieval military architecture.
