Château d'Arlay
A former convent of the Minim order, the U-shaped central building was bought by Elisabeth-Pauline de Gand, Countess of Lauraguais, heiress to the fortress of the Princes of Orange on the hill above the present château. She made this former convent her residence: the climate of Arlay was milder than that of Nozeroy in the high Jura, where her castle stood. Some exterior decorative elements were brought from Nozeroy to Arlay. Madame de Lauraguais had two pavilions built as stables on either side of the main building. She laid out the park and the horseshoe fountain, and had the ice house built. All this work was carried out around 1770 and was to last nearly ten years.
