Cascade de la Pisse
The Pisse waterfall is at Ceillac, in the Queyras, at the foot of the Mélézet. Fed by Lac Miroir, it falls some 280 metres according to local sources, although other documents give a lower height for its tiering. Its name is shared by several waterfalls in the Hautes-Alpes, hence the importance of locating it in the Queyras, not far from the Ceillac car park. It is the starting point of several hikes.
In winter, the waterfall becomes one of the best-known ice-climbing sites in the Hautes-Alpes. Its large flow means that ice forms with difficulty, but when conditions allow, climbers can scale this true cathedral of ice, with ice axes and crampons. In summer, it is reached on foot and offers a refreshing high-mountain setting, with the sound of water tumbling down the wall.
