Cascade de Saute Aure
The Saute Aure waterfall springs from a rocky cirque in the Dévoluy, in the Hautes-Alpes, between the Col du Festre and La Jarjatte, below the Col des Aiguilles. It is one of the few visible waterfalls in the massif, whose ever-present limestone usually swallows the water into underground rivers: it only really flows in spring or after heavy rain. In winter it can freeze into an impressive wall of ice popular with ice climbers. It is reached by a path of about seven kilometres from the Col du Festre, through the pastures and hamlets of the Dévoluy.
