Arlempdes
Arlempdes is a small village of the Haute-Loire, about thirty kilometres south-east of Le Puy-en-Velay, ranked among the Most Beautiful Villages of France. It occupies a spectacular site, on a rocky spur overlooking the wild gorges of the Loire, where the river curves towards Le Puy.
At the top of the town, the castle built of basalt rock between the twelfth and fourteenth centuries is now in ruins. It stands amid old lava flows and offers an exceptional viewpoint over the gorges. The village is discovered on foot, in about an hour, and combines well with a walk on the paths that run along the young Loire.
