Abbaye de Saint-Savin-sur-Gartempe

Vienne, Nouvelle-Aquitaine

The abbey ensemble is made up of the church, the conventual building, the abbot's lodging and the gardens. The Romanesque church houses the largest known ensemble of mural paintings, hence UNESCO recognition in 1983.

The church comprises a porch tower (ground floor and gallery), a nave and a chevet, an ambulatory and five radiating chapels. Under the choir are two crypts: one entirely painted dedicated to Saint Savin and Saint Cyprian and the other to Saint Martin.
