Rocher de Belmont

Haut-Rhin, Grand Est

The Château Hans, in the Haut-Rhin, is a ruin-like rock halfway up the escarpment overlooking the Lac Blanc. Legends saw in it the remains of the castle of an ungodly lord named Hans, said to have been swallowed by the waters of the lake.

The climb on the steep, rocky path through the cliff above the Hans rock to the Chaire des Rochers is rewarded by a very fine view over the Lac Blanc and its surroundings. The Rocher de Belmont is half an hour away and also offers a magnificent viewpoint over the lake.
