Pointe du Van

Finistère, Bretagne

At the western end of the Cap Sizun, in the Finistère, the Pointe du Van forms, with the Pointe du Raz facing it across the Baie des Trépassés, one of the two most emblematic rocky headlands of the Finistère. Less visited than its famous neighbour, it keeps a wild, unspoilt character, with its short heath swept by ocean winds.

The Saint-They chapel stands alone among rocks and heather, adding a heritage and almost mystical dimension to the landscape. The cliffs, lower than those of the Pointe du Raz, give a closer approach to the ocean and its spray.

The site is reached from the commune of Cléden-Cap-Sizun, and a coastal path links the Pointe du Van on foot to the Baie des Trépassés and the Pointe du Raz. Spring and autumn, when the heath takes on changing colours, are particularly good times to visit.
