Phare de Chassiron

Charente-Maritime, Nouvelle-Aquitaine

More than 150 years old, the Chassiron lighthouse is meant to assist sailors navigating the Pertuis d'Antioche, one of the most dangerous places in the Charente-Maritime. Overlooking the north point of the Île d'Oléron at 46 metres high, striped like a convict, the lighthouse now houses a Show Route, a true "living" circuit, retracing the story of a young shipwreck survivor as well as a themed shop (postcards, T-shirts, books...). After climbing 224 steps, you discover an exceptional panorama over the Île d'Oléron, the Antioche beacon, La Rochelle, the islands of Ré and Aix and of course the ocean...

Moreover, the lighthouse gardens are now laid out for everyone's pleasure.
