Musée portuaire de Dunkerque
The Dunkirk Port Museum, in the Nord, occupies a former 19th-century industrial warehouse in the historic Citadelle district, which has kept all its character.
The route introduces famous and humbler figures: Jean Bart and privateering, the fishermen and two centuries of Icelandic fishing voyages that set out from the Dunkirk coast, and the dockers, boatmen and pilots who reveal the workings of today's port. Starting from the history of the port of Dunkirk, the museum explains how ports work and what is at stake for them in international maritime trade. Models, tools, paintings, everyday objects, films and photographs illustrate this world.
