Musée Marcel-Lenoir

Tarn-et-Garonne, Occitanie

The Marcel-Lenoir museum is housed in the château of Montricoux, in the Tarn-et-Garonne, a former Templar commandery of the 12th and 13th centuries. Opened in 1983, it occupies several rooms of the main building and is devoted to Jules Oury, known as Marcel-Lenoir, born in Montauban in 1872 into a family of goldsmiths and died at Montricoux in 1931.

The museum holds about 130 drawings, pastels, watercolours, oils and frescoes by the artist. His work remained Symbolist until 1912; he then absorbed Cubism in his own way, with superimposed planes and facets. Frequenting the Montparnasse artists, he became friends with Modigliani, Léger and Picasso.

The château also has a Templar chapel, a Neoclassical château museum and a permanent exhibition on Alain Laborde, a contemporary painter and sculptor. Guided tours are by appointment.
