Méandre de Queuille

Puy-de-Dôme, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes

The Queuille meander is a loop of the Sioule, a river of the Combrailles, in the north-west of the Puy-de-Dôme. Here the river has carved deep wooded gorges and forms a wide loop of about two kilometres, nicknamed by some the 'Amazonia of Auvergne' because of its dense vegetation.

The best viewpoint is the Paradis promontory, a viewing platform reached on foot from the village of Queuille, leaving the car near the church. It gives an overall view of the meander, and a telescope is installed there.

Access to the site and viewpoint is free all year. Public toilets and a car park are nearby, and a snack bar opens in season. The appearance of the valley changes with the seasons, autumn being a popular time with visitors.
