Grotte de la Vache
The Grotte de la Vache is a small cave in the commune of Alliat, in the Ariège. It is an Upper Palaeolithic archaeological site that has yielded remains and portable art from the Magdalenian period. Despite its modest size, it is a giant of prehistory.
An ideal complement to visits to the Niaux and Bédeilhac caves, it was a home for Cro-Magnon people about 14,000 years ago. Archaeologists have found thousands of objects there: animal bones and teeth, tools and weapons, but also decorated objects. The guided tour explains the daily life of prehistoric hunters in the Pyrenees.
