Rivière souterraine de Labouiche
The Labouiche underground river forms a long cave containing a prehistoric site dated to the Magdalenian. It lies 6 kilometres north-west of Foix, in the Ariège, in the communes of Vernajoul and Baulou, within the Ariège Pyrenees Regional Nature Park.
The water stretches for more than four kilometres, to the delight of visitors in boats. From 1940 to 1943 Louis Méroc carried out archaeological research in the upper galleries, uncovering Gallo-Roman remains and traces of a Magdalenian prehistoric settlement. The boat trip reveals the river in the coolness of the cave.
