Forêt de Saint Germain en Laye
The forest of Saint-Germain-en-Laye is a 3,500-hectare state forest occupying a loop of the Seine about twenty kilometres west of Paris. This former royal hunting forest lies entirely within the commune of Saint-Germain-en-Laye and borders Maisons-Laffitte, Le Mesnil-le-Roi, Achères and Poissy. Mainly sessile oak (53%) and beech (18%), it is now surrounded by built-up areas and heavily divided by transport links: major roads, the partly underground A14 motorway and railway lines. Every summer the forest hosts a large funfair, the Fête des Loges.
