Château de Médan

Yvelines, Île-de-France

On a hillside above the Seine, in a landscape immortalised by Paul Cézanne, this former hunting lodge at Médan, in the Yvelines, keeps the memory of Ronsard and the poets of the Pléiade, of King Henry IV and his love for the beautiful Gabrielle d'Estrées, and of the Belgian poet Maurice Maeterlinck, author of Pelléas et Mélisande and The Blue Bird.

The post-war period nearly proved fatal, but the château was saved from abandonment by its present owners, Mr and Mrs Aubin de Malicorne. After ten years of restoration, they welcome visitors personally in an authentic setting.
