Foret de la Coubre

Charente-Maritime, Nouvelle-Aquitaine

The Coubre state forest is a forest massif of the Arvert peninsula, in the Charente-Maritime, extending over about thirty kilometres, from Saint-Palais-sur-Mer to Ronce-les-Bains, along the ocean. Covering 4,820 hectares, it is one of the most important forests in the north of Nouvelle-Aquitaine. It is above all a vast pine forest, which in many ways recalls the Landes forest, on the other side of the Gironde estuary, but with greater ecological richness.

To the west, the wild coast turns into immense beaches of fine sand at the foot of the dunes. A cycle track crosses the forest from Saint-Palais-sur-Mer to La Palmyre. There are also hiking paths.
