Château de Troissereux

Oise, Hauts-de-France

The Château de Troissereux is in the Oise, near Beauvais. Built mainly in the 15th and 16th centuries, it occupies an originally fortified site that controlled the approaches to Beauvais and a ford over the Thérain. A medieval castle, destroyed by the English in 1388, preceded the present building. In the 16th century Jean de L'Isle Marivaux, treasurer of the Army of the North, carried out major works.

The building, of brick and white stone, is L-shaped: a main block, a lower gallery and the Time Tower, which houses a brick spiral staircase, a medieval clock and an astral weathervane. The interior décor was redone in 1791. It has been protected since 1983.

The park of about twelve hectares, attributed to Bernard Palissy, is listed; it has some forty tree species and a 330-metre canal, and serves as a stopover for migrating birds. The Tranié family, who still live here, have owned it since the Revolution.
