Château de Rosny-sur-Seine

Yvelines, Île-de-France

The Duke of Sully, minister to Henry IV (1553–1610), had a château built on the banks of the Seine at the end of the sixteenth century on the foundations of a medieval castle. Building was interrupted for a time by Henry IV's death in 1610. Owned by the Sully family until 1718, the château was sold to the Count of Sénozand. After various changes of owner, it was bought by the Duke of Berry, whose wife made it her main residence. Left abandoned for decades, part of its furniture was bought by the State to save it. Bought by a private owner, the château is not currently open to visitors. It is a listed historic monument.
