Château de Potelle
Built in the 14th century by Gilles de Potelle, the castle of Potelle, in the Nord, has kept its medieval military architecture. In 1490 the fief passed to Jean de Carondelet, and five centuries later Potelle still belongs to the same family, the Fremin du Sartel.
The castle survived many fires, notably those caused by the armies of Louis XI and Louis XIV. In the 16th century changes were made, with a gallery added in the courtyard and new roofs. Wide moats still surround the castle, along with a superb park, a vaulted cellar and a chapel containing many tombstones.
