Château de La Ferté-Saint-Aubin

Loiret, Centre-Val de Loire

Some twenty kilometres south of Orléans, the Château de La Ferté stands on the banks of the Cosson, entirely surrounded by moats. Its brick and stone architecture, typical of the Sologne, combines a 16th-century 'small château' and a 17th-century 'great château', built for Marshal de La Ferté-Senneterre, with large outbuildings and stables.

Partly listed as a historic monument, the estate can be explored at your own pace: furnished salons and bedrooms, old kitchens where madeleines are sometimes baked, stables, and a large park with an island, a maze and games for children. Easy to reach by train from Orléans, it is a good stop for discovering the Sologne.
