Château de Gramont
The Château de Gramont, in the Tarn-et-Garonne, was built in the 14th century on the remains of an earlier castle, of which only a fortified tower survives (the Simon de Montfort tower). The present building has two distinct parts: a Gothic gatehouse joined to a Renaissance wing with finely carved mullioned windows.
This wing opens onto the courtyard through a double door leading to a rib-vaulted staircase. A vast hall occupies almost the whole first floor. A spiral staircase without a central newel, a true technical feat, leads to the oratory. All the rooms have been refurnished and enriched with period works of art. The terraced garden has been redesigned and overlooks the rolling landscape typical of the Lomagne.
