Château de Flixecourt

Somme, Hauts-de-France

The Château de Flixecourt, in the Somme, was built as the residence of the mill owner, as part of the Saint Frères textile complex, between 1884 and 1886 (the dates appear on the main gate), to plans by the Amiens architect Paul Louis Deleforterie for Jean-Baptiste Saint. A private archive collection exists.

It housed the headquarters of General Rawlinson, commander of the British Fourth Army, during the offensive of August 1918. In 1942 it was the setting for a major Luftwaffe conference chaired by Marshal Göring.

The protected elements include the façades and roofs, the main gate, the grand stone staircase with balusters and its painted ceiling, and many rooms with their décor: entrance hall, large and small salons and dining rooms, billiard room and bedrooms, as well as the stables, the water tower and the balustraded retaining wall along the park.
