Château de Bagatelle

Somme, Hauts-de-France

Set in greenery that surrounds it entirely, the Château de Bagatelle in Abbeville preserves what is probably a unique ensemble in France of painted panelling, architecture, furniture and period décor.

A family home, Bagatelle is not a museum but keeps the lively charm of a house that is still lived in. Guided tours take visitors through the painted salons and the music room, where the composer Vincent d'Indy often played.

The visit continues in the botanical park of more than 10 hectares. The French formal garden directly around the château dates back to the 18th century; it was extended in the 19th century with an English-style park.
