Château de Flers
The Château de Flers, at Villeneuve-d'Ascq in the Nord, is characteristic of 17th-century rural Flemish architecture. It consists of two wings at right angles, one to the north and one to the west; originally it had a third wing to the east.
Conservation work was carried out by the architects Maurice Salembier and Emmanuel Turcry in 1974-1975 and 1979, and the town of Villeneuve-d'Ascq fitted out the interior from 1986 to 1991. Four basement rooms have housed an archaeological museum since 1991. The museum also holds temporary exhibitions on archaeology, local history and regional ethnography.
