Château d'Entrecasteaux
An eleventh-century fortress, remodelled in the fifteenth, sixteenth and eighteenth centuries, with buttresses, an eleventh-century armoury and guardroom, and dungeons. Gardens designed by Le Nôtre and an eighteenth-century rotunda ice house, inspired by Versailles.
Today the château d'Entrecasteaux is the most important in the Var (listed as a historic monument). It has been entirely refurnished with period objects: furniture, tapestries, paintings and clocks. The château has been restored and is lived in by its owner, Alain Gayral.
To discover: the vaults and guardrooms, the sixteenth-century kitchens, the cabinets of curiosities, the Baroque music room, the library, the oriental suite and the seventeenth-century ironwork.
