Centre national du costume de scène
With the Nureyev collection and costumes from the Comédie-Française and the Paris Opera, the National Centre for Stage Costume and Scenography (CNCS) in Moulins, in the Allier, is the first conservation body in France or abroad devoted entirely to the material heritage of theatres and opera houses.
It holds a collection of 10,000 stage costumes, deposited by three major institutions, the Bibliothèque Nationale de France, the Comédie-Française and the Opéra National de Paris, or owned by the CNCS through gifts from the Nureyev Foundation, theatre costume designers (Christian Lacroix, Frank Sorbier), companies (Les Carnets Bagouet, Régine Chopinot, Jean-Marie Villégier, Odile Duboc) and artists or their families (Jacqueline François, Régine Crespin). These costumes form an exceptional living heritage.
